Log Home Work In Progress

Construction using our milled logs is simple and straightforward. Most contractors already have the tools and skills to do this kind of construction.

Cut on Site

The logs come in random lengths, to be cut and fit on site. This can mean a large savings to the over-all cost of the project because it allows last minute changes and flexibility without additional cost.

Double Seal Foam

Sashco Building SuppliesWe recommend a double seal between logs with a closed cell vinyl foam compressed on the tongues and two beads of SHASCO log builder caulking placed on the log curve side of both tongues. Some contractors like to add a bead of liquid nail down the center.

Screw the logs together

The logs are constructed with a butt and pass corner configuration. This allows easy construction of a very strong corner with a true log appearance. The logs are fastened at an 18" spacing with 8" or 10" log screws (depending on log size) designed specifically for log construction.

Trim the Tongue

At each corner, the tongue should be chiseled off to allow the next log course to fit flush.

Drill the cornersAfter the logs are secured at every vertical joint, we advise a three-step process.

1)Drill a 3/4" hole down through the joint.

Caulk the Hole2) Place a bit of log builder caulk in the hole. Drive the Dowel3) Drive a pre-cut 3/4" dowel into the hole.

You now have a very strong and positive corner or other vertical joint.
